Falls and Hip Fractures

Reducing Falls

Physical Activity

Physical activity can nearly halve the incidence of hip fractures in older adults, probably because of the positive effects on bone, muscle strength, balance, and joint flexibility (Binder EF, 2004; Province MA, 1995; Rutherford OM, 1999). In addition to decreasing fall and disease risk factors, physical activity increases functional capacity leading to greater independence and quality of life.
