Managing Medication Adverse Effects Post Kidney Transplant

Later Developments

6 weeks after transplant

Joan developed diarrhea, and CellCept® was decreased to 500 mg Q12 hours. Her stool output was back to normal after decreasing the dose of CellCept®. She was also started on furosemide for complaints of shortness of breath

7 weeks after transplant

Joan was stable; her shortness of breath has also improved. She was started on Lipitor® for hyperlipidemia.

8 weeks after transplant

Joan developed leucopenia. There was no change in medication at that time, but her white blood cell count was monitored weekly.

10 weeks after transplant

Her dose of Lipitor® increased as Joan's lab results continued to show hyperlipidemia. Persistent leucopenia was still problematic and Joan's dose of Valcyte® was decreased from 450 mg once every day to twice a week.

4½ months after transplant

Lipitor® was discontinued due to calf pain.
