Upon the advice of my primary care physician, Dr. David Fleming (internal medicine), I started taking blood pressure and cholesterol-lowering medication to lessen the chances of any additional aneurysms. Dr. Fleming further recommended that I continue with physical and occupational therapy, and be regularly monitored by a neurologist.
I continued with physical therapy with Bob Schaal and Mike Tipton at Peak Performance, a rehabilitation center, on an outpatient basis.
When I first began occupational therapy at Rusk Rehabilitation center, my goals had been two-fold: (1) to be self-reliant for getting dressed and to put my shoes on, and (2) to drive again. Towards this aim, my occupational therapy sessions initially consisted of using "reachers" and other assistive devices to enable me to put my socks and shoes on. I had hand controls installed in my vehicle, and I took an Adaptive Driver's Training Course to get trained in using hand controls. After completing the training course and practicing driving on my own with my wife, I passed my driver's examination with little difficulty.
