Posterior Fossa Syndrome

Discharge Month 9

Physical Therapy

Katie is able to maintain standing balance for 20-30 seconds independently. She is independent with rolling, crawling, and sitting and can transition independently from floor to stand using low bench/chair through ½ kneel.

Katie is now ambulating 1500 feet with a reverse rolling walker with supervision, requiring minimum assistance to steer/turn walker. She has a decreased ability to walk with the walker in a straight path, tending to drift to the left. Katie is also able to take 3-4 steps independently and walk backwards for 10 feet. Katie still shows signs of ataxia and low tone, causing difficulty with stabilizing.

Occupational Therapy

Katie has improved her gross motor skills involving bilateral hand activities, including being able to throw a ball overhand, catch a ball in front of and to each side of her body with 50% accuracy.

Katie was provided with self-help skills with dressing, needed minimum to moderate assistance to tie shoes, but is able to zipper her pants. Katie is able to color while staying in lines and write name. She is also able to perform overhead tasks requiring fine motor skills.

Speech Therapy

Katie is able to communicate needs, but her sentences are choppy. She is able hold a basic conversation, but is still slow to respond.

Katie is now attending school for ½ days 2-3 days a week. Her family decided to continue Katie's therapy at a different outpatient clinic that is closer to their home. They were very grateful to all the doctors and therapists that helped Katie progress to this point.
