Overview

This case is appropriate for early intervention professionals who with the parents and a representative of the local education authority (LEA) make up the educational placement team for the special needs child. These professionals include: physical therapists, physicians, psychologists, occupational therapists, nutritionists, nurses, speech and language pathologists, social workers, special educators and audiologists.

Objectives

• Explain the transdisciplinary treatment approach when providing services to children with disabilities.
• Discuss past, current, and proposed practices and legislation for educating children with disabilities.
• Describe the Individual Education Plan (IEP)
• Differentiate between the medical and educational models when providing services to children with disabilities.
