Breast Cancer

Second Opinion / Treatment

After seeking a second opinion, the patient learned that a biopsy revealed stage IIa infiltrating lobular carcinoma.

How are tumors typed and staged?

Based on this information what would be Karen's prognosis?

The treatment decision made by Karen, her oncologist and surgeon, was to have a left modified radical mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. It is scheduled for 09-04-92.

See these NCI treatment guidelines.

What other surgical options were available at this point?
