Cervical Conundrum

Past Medical History


Her past medical history was remarkable for gallstones, requiring a cholecystectomy at age 16. She reported a significant history of fingernail biting approximately 10 years previously, resulting in recurrent infections. Hospitalization was required for repeated antibiotic therapy. She underwent surgical amputation of some digits of the right hand secondary to infections caused by the fingernail biting.

What is the patient's chief complaint and why is it important?

List the major symptoms.


Social History

The patient smoked approximately 1 pack of cigarettes per day. She did not consume alcohol. She was married, with several reportedly healthy children. She worked as a homemaker.
