Objective Lumbar Spine Assessments


Lumbar spine assessment

Test movements are used to discern their effect on symptoms.

FIS: Flexion in Standing (bending forward as if to touch your toes.)

EIS: Extension in Standing (back bending with your hands in the small of the back.)

SGIS: Side Gliding in Standing (shifting the trunk sideward and over the pelvis in the direction indicated.)

FIL: Flexion in Lying (bringing the knees to the sides of the chest in supine.)

EIL: Extension in Lying (pressups in prone, like pushups only the pelvis stays in contact with the supporting surface.)

R: Right. L: Left. Rep: Repeated (the number of times depends upon the response of symptoms.)
