Mechanical Low Back Pain

Anatomy and Functional Concepts

Anatomy: Structures of a functional lumbar segment possibly involved in mechanical LBP are identified below. While the nucleus pulposus and the inner layers of the annulus fibrosus are not innervated they play a role in pain production in that their displacement may deform other pain sensitive tissues or interfere with the normal dynamic relationship of the adjacent articular surfaces.
