Rheumatoid Arthritis and Aerobic Exercise

Before Starting to Exercise

Persons with unstable cardiac disease or pulmonary hypertension need to have those medical conditions under control before beginning to exercise.

Persons with rheumatoid arthritis with active systemic vasculitis should also have that under control before beginning to exercise.

Before beginning an exercise program, some people with arthritis may need therapeutic exercises to get ready to become more active.


What are the current guidelines for stress testing prior to beginning participation in an exercise program?

Define moderate intensity exercise.

Define vigorous intensity exercise.
