From that point on there were no further lymphocele problems with the transplant. Sam was treated for a viral illness in early August. By August 7 he was able to get weekly labs at his local hospital lab and have results faxed to the transplant team and his local nephrologist. By mid-August he was cleared to return to work. By the end of August, he was returned to the care of his primary referring nephrologist for post-transplant follow-up and was back at work.
He was now working a different job. Rather than welding and
heavy lifting, he was switched to computer drafting of electrical
switch boxes by his company. Throughout the illness, Sam had
maintained his employment with the company over the past ten years.
His move into an office caused mixed feelings as Sam no
longer directly welded
and produced large switch boxes used by electrical
and mining companies. The move allowed him to learn new
skills as a mechanical designer with computer drafting expertise in
design. The move also gave him work that he could feasibly
perform and allowed him to keep his insurance benefits intact for
himself and his family.
