objectives


  1. Describe what advantages accrue to patients from an interdisciplinary geriatric assessment approach.
  2. Describe what types of patients will and will not benefit from an interdisciplinary geriatric assessment team.
  3. List the concepts underlying the interdisciplinary approach to comprehensive geriatric care.
  4. Describe services available from physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, health psychology, and respiratory therapy to meet the needs of older adults who have complex medical issues.
  5. Describe how the interdisciplinary geriatric team uses the Interdisciplinary Geriatric Assessment (IGA) form with the older adult who has complex medical issues.
  6. Develop an interdisciplinary plan of action for this case, incorporating services to manage risk factors, and considering caregiver and client education.
  7. Describe how the team leader facilitates an interdisciplinary team meeting, using the Interdisciplinary Geriatric Assessment form as a guide, to keep the team focused and time efficient.
